Chris is quite right, it actually took me half a day before I decided to post here.

I have tried to "reach out" to this author. Sadly, I get the feeling that he's going to be beyond redemption. I don't think his behaviour will change.

If you don't want to say it, then I will: He has turned to the dark side. 
All kidding aside, I remember looking at his Target Eye articles when they were first published, thinking it was an interesting, nostalgic look back at old projects. Nice, no harm done.
Now when I look at some of the alleged sock puppet accounts, the voting is not subtle at all. Unfortunately, I peeked into the rabbit hole and all of a sudden, there seemed to be a link to an even bigger MVP with "sock puppet like" activity, although to a less obvious degree. I don't want to follow through on that right now.

If you suspect that type of behaviour, drop Chris and Sean a note. They will look into it.

Report it. If he/she is doing this they are degrading the usefulness of the site by making their articles look better than they are.

Jörgen Andersson Good catch. I checked first few in the above list and what you said is right. on an average 10 of his article was voted on the same day. mostly on 25th Jan.

Well, I tried to reason with him, but his sock puppets have removed my posts. He's not going to learn.

Would you recommend reporting him and the puppets then?
I'm a bit ambivalent here, I feel that his MVC status might be undeserved, but I don't believe the sock puppets made all the upvoting on some of the articles.

I've asked about this one on the Moderator's forum - perhaps Sean/Chris could have a quiet word with him. I had voted him abusive, but I've said that if I'm wrong they should remove my vote. Heck, I'll even go and publicly apologise to the guy; my gut says he's abusing the system but I am more than happy to be proved wrong. The sock puppets have to go though.

Well he seems to be back again, but with reputation points stripped down to 54.
Strangest thing yet is that the perpetrator still has MVP status.
Kind of sad I think! 
I don't think behaviour such as this should be rewarded with MVP status.

I already wanted to report that member last Saturday, as all of a sudden 14 of that members articles were suddenly updated and the whole article page of that day was plastered with its articles.
Looked as if that was meant to drive more traffic towards its articles. In this context I think should have gone ahead with reporting that account.

Yep, this has me dismayed too.
I'm modding the following statements through the fact that I don't have all the information (e.g. server logs) or the discussion that it looks like followed in private. But:
Not only does he still have the MVP status, he won an article of the month awards, which is still in place at the time of writing. Beyond the apparent use of sock-puppets to bolster the reputation of his articles (which was the most prolific I have seen in my time here) he seems to have squarely rounded on anyone who down-voted his articles, on one occasion he used the sockpuppets to attack the critic in a way I can only describe as bullying. Again, I don't know what the critic said, but he was reported enough times to get banned.
I really hope we get an explanation or at least the concern this has generated gets registered chez hamster, as things stand from the outside this looks like a bad outcome.

I'm glad it's being discussed, as I say I don't have the full facts and the apparent activity by this particular user looks bad.

The whole thing looks bad, but how can those brand new accounts red-flag messages? They are certainly not supposed to be able to do so. Perhaps there is even more going on.

I don't know, but he seems to be able to delete the messages quick enough. Petes messages were quickly deleted.
