If I paste a link in a message with no selection, it is pasted correctly :

If I paste a link in a message with the selection : "Magnetic Hill" it will be broken, I do this often when writing a message, I type my text and fill in the links afterward, it usually works, but not in that case.

In the newsletter I just received, there's a link to a survey about competitions.
Unfortuneately, the link has merged with the full stop to give:

instead of:

The text version?
I'm guessing that, since the sentence containing the link ended in a ".", your email client decided was part of the URL when creating an auto link and hence gave you the wrong URL.
I've edited the newseltter so that those who are yet to receive it will not have this problem.

Today I submitted an article. Someone suggested that it is a Tip and not an article. I politely disagreed and said I thought it was an article. A little later I saw that this article was published as a Tip on Code Project.
Now this is a very strange thing. If I needed to submit a Tip, I would have submitted a Tip. I did not change the type myself, since I did not want to publish it as a Tip. I would have rather not publish it as a Tip in that case.
I think this thing makes no sense. A writer alone should be given the right to decide if they want to publish something as something or not.
If the community thinks that something is not worth publishing, it is fine. But totally changing another person's submission without their will is not acceptable.
As soon as I saw it appear as a Tip, I deleted it. I am very surprised at this thing. Don't eat my apples if you think they are not tasty. But don't try to turn my apples into oranges because you think I should rather have oranges.

First of all, I'm sorry if you felt the editor mis-categorised your article. I, personally, do not think it's a Tip so I've updated it and moved it back to being an article. I would not, however, call changing it from an article to a tip "totally changing another person's submission".
Second, you also have the ability to update your article and change it back to an article. Since you chose to delete it instead of simply changing it to an article gave me pause and hence I left your article in the deleted state.
Again, I apologise if there was any offense. We're here to help you share code and if you have a problem or a question on what we've done, just ask, and we'll do our best to make things right. If you wish to simply delete the article because of a mistake then that's certainly your perogative, but I think there's is a better approach.

The only reason I got upset is because I was not even asked if I wanted it to be posted as a Tip. If someone had asked me, I would have politely said 'No' and tried to improve my work without any complain. As to the fact that one can later change it, I would repeat the same thing: Why not ask before doing it, so the other person is not 'forced' to undo it.
I have been using CP for like a decade and have been writing on it for about 2 years. I spend time writing because I enjoy it; not because I like to start arguments that disturb my and other people's peace of mind.
Not everyone has nerves of steel and some writers may just be a little short of being totally crazy. For a moment I was just about to delete everything I have ever submitted. Now that's crazy, even I know. But ...
I would simple request that in future my articles are not Tipped.
Thanks again for your response. I will again try to post an improved version of my 'Article.'

In this thread[^] Bill recommends the OP to post in Q&A as the forums are more for discussion rather than asking questions.
Is that what Q&A is designed for, I just saw it as an alternative to the forums, and inferior format IMHO.

Quick Answers is specifically to get answers to well-posed questions, and the forums are for having a good back-and-forth about stuff that doesn't always have a simple answer.
Turth be told I don't like having both systems running in parallel and would like to combine them.
How woul you like to see them work?

It may be lack of imagination on my part but the current forum design suits the way I like to work, lots of easily accessible information about a focused subject. There is no back and forth between the list and the details.
Possibly add the answered options to the forum messages, highlighting the response that is flagged.

Please note that in my second response to the thread linked to, by "rFresh:" I commented:
"Just to be clear, my opinion that the type of specific questions you are asking on this Forum (now) are best served in Q&A, are just my opinion, and I do not represent, or speak for, CP in any way.
The general idea is that forums like this one are meant to be for discussion of broader issues in using C# ... but that's my interpretation."
You might also note the extreme care I took in both my replies to "rFresh" to (try and) function as a "friendly educator," and the fact that "rFresh" thanked me for my comments.
My experience here, in over eleven years, is that the C# language forum used to be a place for some pretty high-level discussions of C# language issues, with a lot of interaction, but, in the last couple of years, the last year, in particular, the kinds of specific questions that used to be posted in the Q&A C# forum (and the worst kind of "gimme" questions, and questions which demonstrate the OP has not even bothered to do the simplest search of CodeProject) have now over-run the C# language forum.
I have expressed my opinions, here, on this forum, before, that the original CP design, as I understand it, for having separate language-specific Q&A forums and Discussion forums, is to enable two very different kinds of facilities, to meet the distinct needs of two separate types of users, is a good idea ... in theory.
In practice, I suspect the task of keeping the "general" forums "general," is onerous (I, and I think many other people, are reluctant to report any message we don't see as an extreme violation of CP's guidelines, and culture), and then someone on CP staff has got to play "judge" if there are some reports, but not enough for auto-removal ? Who's got time for that ?
I see a great advantage for most users with specific questions in the Q&A forum, and those who choose to respond with "solutions," given Q&A's multi-level commenting facilities, its rating facilities, and the fact it offers the OP a chance to vote on which answer they think is "best," as well as up-vote any answer they think is good.
But, I'd be fine, if Chris, as he expresses, here on this thread, decides to merge the two systems.
If the two systems remain separate, and things keep going the way they are (as I perceive them), I'd agree with Mycroft that it wouldn't "hurt" to add the "Op chooses the best" option.
But, whether it would add anything to the language specific forums: I'm not sure. Is it possible that might "stimulate" the kind of "rep-machine behavior" now perpetrated in Q&A by certain individuals, who will post long-winded answers to any questions asked that are often ... I'll spare you the details
If you are going to add "OP picks winner," why not add the commenting system that Q&A has ? And, then, if both facilities have identical functionality: well, why not combine them ?
For myself, every time I respond to a C# language forum post with suggestions to search CP, and maybe include a link to a CP article that obviously addresses the user's question: I don't really feel like I deserve ten reputation points for that.
For myself, I really like the idea of having a forum where: if I ask a well thought-out question, expressed in detailed fashion ... perhaps something like: "what are the real advantages of enabling interaction between Forms in Windows Forms, using Interfaces in C#, rather than 'exposing public properties,' or 'injecting object references' ?:" I just might get a thoughtful answer from the likes of Harold Aptroot, Pete O'Hanlon, Richard MacCutchan, and other people I regard as mentors on CP, in a zone somewhat "free" of the "ambiance" (mosh-pit ?) that Q&A is now
But, there's no real "complaint" being expressed here. Times change, what's needed: changes, and I continue to enjoy using, participating in, CP ! 10 million+ geeks can't be wrong

I'm writing an article and in the 'pre' blocks the cursor seems to arbitrarily jump to different parts of the pre block, sometimes the end, sometimes the beginning. This is making edits hard!

It's Chrome actually - I don't know if it's related, but since the last time I used the editor also if I paste some text from a pre section into a new paragraph, all of the text except the last line is copied properly - the last line gets formatted as paragraph text but with span styling to make it monospaced fonts.
Trying to think of anything else that might help... I've got no funny extensions on Chrome, was using the editor in the WSIWYG mode. Typically I create a code block via the menu, then right click and use 'paste as plain text'. In the past this has never caused problems, but it's actually been about 2 months since I've written an article. It was changing cursor pos about on average once or twice per code block I was working on.
Has anyone else had any similar issues? I can try and come up with a more detailed repro if that helps.
