It is a constant struggle for control of the heater between me and my wife too, although not because of the cost.
She feels the cold a lot (has a vague diagnosis of Raynaud's phenomenon), I do not and hate being hot.
She's sat there complaining about freezing to death whilst I'm wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and complaining about wanting to open the windows.
A cold person can put more clothes on, I cannot strip any much further.

Well living in Singapore cold is not an issue 
I do love travelling to a colder climate, last cold trip was to the ice festival in Sapporo, it was bloody lovely to be cold again, 5 foot of snow was a real pleasure to walk through.
I have on occasion wondered if it is possible to strip to less than the skin layer to get cooler, Ivanhoe NSW brings back memories of 40+ temperatures.

After my first year at Lancaster Uni I lived in a shared house in Morecambe for a while.
It had 7 bedrooms over 5 split level floors and two heaters, one in the living room and one in the entrance hall (which didn't work).
In the mornings afternoons you'd get up then scrape the ice off the inside of the window to see what the weather was like outside.

Same here, running the AirCon costs a bomb. It is perhaps somewhat preferable to the heating problem though as its alternative is nakedness
