I think you may be missing a few factors in your equation.

i.e. some GUIDs are somewhat more ubiquitous than others.

Certainly. But that's a probability, which is always calculated based on some assumptions.

I read an actual discussion about this very thing elsewhere, believe it or not, which is what prompted my reply.

Not guaranteed unique is always true both GUIDs and UUIDs BTW, though the chances of generating the same two IDs are vanishingly small for truly random sets. The UUID I supplied, is the same as the OP, meaning neither my nor his UID are unique, negating them as either Universally or Globally unique IDs.
