I would be more inclined to get a Surface 2 Pro

Microsoft has been missing the boat too much lately. the surface commercials where they try to compare themselves to an iPad is evident they don't even know their own competition.
you want something inspirational??

With the new Haswell processor, I'll finally get "most of the day" battery life. I'll get the dock and the power cover too. I will probably get my daughter the Surface 2 (RT) version. It's a great replacement for the iPad.

I did not think that Surface 2 was the WinRT toy...
I would buy the Surface 2 pro... not sure why they keep naming it "Pro".
They should name it
"Surface 2 RT" versus "Surface 2", the Pro should be the default

Don't know - I prefer the RT version. At least it can't run regular Windows malware.

I don't get why so much people care about malwares on windows.
I have no anti virus, and the last malware I had was 4 years ago.

My current mobility gadgets include:
Samsung Galaxy SII (planning to replace by the new Note 3)
Toshiba Portege Z830
Kindle Paper White (on the way)
With these 3 I manage to have:
- A good "phablet"... Note 3 is big enough for me as a tablet and also a phone.
- A very light, thin and powerful laptop
- A comfortable device to read anywhere without having to hold a brick
To get a Surface I would have to drop all this. Sell my laptop, don't buy the Kindle and replace the SII by something similar or smaller.
So... maybe in my next gadget refresh, in about 2 years I might get the Surface 3 if it's lighter (and ever exists)

So yeah, I was going to buy the first one, but here we are a year later with Surface 2 Pro and the first one is still not available where I live.

I am very happy with my Surface I. I'm waiting for the start menu to come back and an OS that treats it as a real computer.

WinRT is just dead for me mostly because you can't do runtime IL generation on it (what were they thinking).
Surface Pro is compelling with the gen 4 Intel chips, but for a tablet I will probably wait for the next next generation for competing battery life, for a PC/laptop/ultrabook I would probably get a "real" ultrabook instead.

They were thinking security. It is impossible to do a security analysis on software that generates its own code.

The same can be said for the full framework, so... ?
