Actually, I should rephrase my original statement: it's amazing how hard it is to find the right answer because there are so many different answers, and many of them are actually terrible!

Well, following this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpDtD4eKBB4[^] she now has a dual running system, and can switch back and forth between live ChromeOS and Linux Desktop using a simple key sequence. This isn't a dual boot setup as in traditional shutdown down and reboot setup, both the original ChromeOs and the new Linux desktop are running in parallel.
The whole things continues to be responsive and functional.
Quite a smart setup for such a simple resource constrained £200 device bought a year ago.

But...if what they say is true:

If the kid had turned, and the cops hadn't fired, he could easily have killed them all with an assault rifle (assuming he had any competence with it).
The headlines then would have been "cop killer (13) kills two, goes on spree".
The cops did tell him to drop the weapon twice. If you don't comply with that in the US, then you are indeed a f**king moron. Call it "Evolution in Action".

Sorry to say, but that is true...
No wonder they have the highest incarceration rates in the world, as it can easily lead to a circle of paranoia. Which is a funny statement in itself, and quite the brain twister, as some paranoia will lead to more paranoia, therefore making the slightly less paranoid normal....

And how were the cops to know that when staring down the barrel? All this kid had to do was to drop the gun and raise his hands. I find it difficult to have sympathy with people who think (in a land where guns are freely available) that this sort of behaviour is sensible.

Dunno, how 'bout take a fuc*ing cover, then yell "drop your weapon" and see what happens. Seriously you can barely hit anything with AK-47 while you're aiming, much less while the target is behind your back in the cover. It's a risk, but they are paid to take the risk and defuse the situation. Instead they chose the path they are not paid for and escalated the it. If you don't want the risk then quite, don't shoot innocent people.

I am rather certain that you are completely wrong. Police forces in the US, all of them, are taught that imminent threat should be met with immediate force. The "defuse" you are referring to only applies to situations where there is no imminent threat or where force cannot be immediately and/or safely applied.

You live in the land of let's have a long term war with our neighbours (really countrymen) so you should have seen at least conscripted military service. As such, you know that you don't f*** around with the military or police with guns. You would also know that American TV Cop shows and movies are bullshit. You can't just dodge bullets and then shoot a bloke in the edge of the shoulder to make him drop the gun.
Dead Yank was a 13 year old. Not sure if Serbia makes their 13 year olds easily and obviously distinguishable from adults but over here they don't. My 13 year old daughter is 8cm taller than her mother and as tall or taller than the average female adult over here. My son at 13 didn't look anything adult like, but I have run into many Coconuts (Pacific Islanders) who at 13 were as big as me (188cm and 100kg). They're armed with something that looks like a gun and I'm in a country of large gun related deaths, I'm shooting first and asking questions later.
But that is probably because I wear my underpants underneath my clothes. Unlike you, Superman.

Apparently replica/toys have a couloured tip (orange I think) on the barrel, his gun did not have that, he was told to drop the weapon by a cop, he DID NOT. Where do you get off disparaging cops for doing their job. How else are they expected to react, these are the guys who are trained and paid to move towards a disaster not run and hide.
Do you not listen when there is a school shooting in the land of guns, some disaffected teenager shoots and kills n# people, and you expect cops not to shoot in this circumstance.
