Well, no exactly. The 4944 existing members on that day have been transfered to the new database after a modification of the web site, IIRC.

Code Project started 15/11/1999 Canadian time, 16/11/1999 on the good side of the world.

05/07/2000 Chris broke Code Project. He had the site backed up as scribble notes on scraps of paper. 06/07/2000 he finishes typing in the accounts by hand and after giving himself No. 1 and Dave No. 2 gives everyone else there Member No. alphabetically.

There is no way 2907 people joined before I did.

I didn't sign up 15/11/1999, that is when the site started. I was definitely in the first few days though. Saw Chris' post on Codeguru and moved across from there.

I'd be interested to see a list of still active members (one post in the last month) ranked by how long they have been a member. You should be toping it, I think.

With out thinking I come up with Chris Losinger.Due to starting with C he has a much lower Member No. than I, but was definitely here early on.

Did it really go that way ? I know he had a lot to fix by hand, but not that was that bad to type the accounts by hand.

I think the Who's who is not reputation based but is listing the entries based on article count.. At least it looks like that.

There are members with more reputation, but those are spending more time in the lounge or the Q&A. (SAK, OG, and the like)

That bit that says "Order by: Reputation" is a bit of a clue, then the way as you go down the list the reputation gets less all the time is the other.
