So which members's son is the spawn of Satan, and who thinks they are invisible? Who was abducted by Bob, and replaced with a lookalike? These questions — and many others — will be answered in the next episode of...SoapProject!

I've recently moved into a more supervisory/managementy role; setting tasks for people, checking progress, keeping the customer happy, getting more involved with planning with PM etc
And, to tell you the truth, I'm bored out of my mind - and that's not to say that I've got no work to do; sometimes I barely have time to take a dump; it's the nature of the job that bores me.
If you love problem solving, coding, developing, testing - then the PM route may leave you unfulfilled - it is just politics, meetings, emails, paperwork, keeping angry customers happy, cajoling engineers to do things they may not necessarily want to do (and neither do you but you have no choice) etc
Also, I wouldn't agree that a good programmer makes a good PM - to me they are different roles entirely, utilising different skill sets.
I've worked with only a handful of, what I would call, outstanding PM's.
As a PM, you have to take a step back from the Engineering side of things and let your engineers do that job, your role is to manage the job, keep to the budget, bring it in on time and deal with the all the internal/external politics.
It's not my idea of a fun job, I'll be going back to what I enjoy for the next role - but like they say it's whatever floats your boat.

Simple: a new PM counts -1 (since he/she actually wastes resources).

<EDIT>
I wonder if I'd have gotten the down-votes if it were politics instead of project management? For that matter, the prose, colorful as they may be, really hardly worse than the other comments? More offensive then many "Dilbert"'s ?
No mechanism exists that I know of, but this time, I down-vote the down-votes.

One word: "Dilbert."
Seriously, why do you think you're qualified to become a PM? (Assuming we're talking about an opportunity you have?)
