The .NET Framework consists of various components:
1. The Runtime: Contains the core Framework and this is the only component that is required to run an app developed with .NET on any supported platform.

2. The SDK: This is required for developing apps using .NET Framework. Contains the compiler and other tools. You can use Notepad to write code and compile the code using the appropriate language compiler. It is a fun way to learn the internals and intricacies of .NET.
