This defense of our own choices and ideas is core to human nature. It is easy for us to adopt a new idea but we religiously defend the ones we have without needing much evidence to back it up. The problem is we tend to tie up our ideas about things with our identity and even our value as human beings. "Burn the heretic, Kill the mutant, Purge the unclean."

I'll also add that OpenVMS is the very best operating system and Windows and all other "personal" operating systems are utter crap for enterprise work. But Windows pays the bills so I use that.

I haven't used OpenVMS but VMS rules, used it a lot back in the hay day of DEC.

As a long time Opera 12.x user, I'm still waiting for an indication of when they'll decide the Chromium based version is mature enough for an official switch over.
With them not offering an automatic update, I'm assuming they've still got enough stuff that's TBD that it's not considered ready for primetime yet.

Microsoft has apparently finally admitted that Windows 8's dueling tablet-PC interface was a mistake, because reports say that in the upcoming 8.1 update Windows will bypass the Start screen and boot straight to the desktop. "The complaining customer represents a huge opportunity for more business."

That new update still will not save it.
There will still be a navigation problem that the new UI introduced.

There is a solution, and it's a simple one: Follow Apple's lead and design one OS for traditional computers and another one for tablets. But there's no sign Microsoft is willing to do that with Windows 8. If we're lucky, maybe it will happen with Windows 9 or beyond.

With the release of Windows 8.1 to the world in October, January was the third full month of availability for Microsoft’s latest operating system version, which was just enough time for it to pass Windows Vista in market share. Linux is at 1.6%! It's truly the "Year of Linux" this time

The real question is of those new sales that were created for Christmas, How many were returned ?
I know we returned 1 in my house.
And HP is offering some Windows 7 units again.
Not a system I would want though.
