Even if this is an April Fool's joke the fact is that this sort of thing coming out of Japan wouldn't be surprising. They've a really weird fascination with artificial life (pets/robots) that creeps me out a little bit.

I wish it was, though. Some posts are bad and deserve negative feedback, but not so much that it is right to report them for abuse. At the moment these posts get the same prominence as the vast majority which are just okay and don't receive any upvotes, but wouldn't be downvoted either.
Lounge downvoting was never a big abuse issue before it was disabled afaik.
