That's true for pigments in a "neutral" lighting situation. But for light, black is the absence of photons: any photon will have a colour that is "not black".

So his point is actually even more apropos. Since black would mean no photons are reaching the eye, that would mean they're all being absorbed by the object looked at.

perhaps, but when you're looking at an inert object that is black it's because it's absorbing all (or most) available photons.

That exactly why the object is black. Your eye isn't getting any photons from the object because they've all been absorbed! Hence your eye sees a "hole" of sorts -- black.

Sorry Tim, I can't be sympathetic. I think all organized (and disorganized) religions are equally absurd. I guess that makes me a godless heathen. However, I have neither the interest nor the energy to provoke those of a particular religious bent, except maybe the "religion of peace". If you're not familiar with that reference, it's not worthy of discussion.

And that's the point: You have your views, but you aren't slamming them down anyone else's throats nor mocking anyone for having their own views. It's called being respectful.
