They all do it, whether it's fake plugs for their own products or artificial criticism of a competitor. Samsung got caught doing the same thing last year, trying to pay off StackOverflow users to promote a developer challenge.

You just need to tell the right "truth"; eg when talking about javascript performance only talk about SunSpider and ignore Kraken and Octane. IE does impressively well on the microbenches in the former; not so much in the more complex and realistic workloads the latter two simulate.
