na the best one is to write a full novel then keep re-releasing it with different character names (worked for Clive Cussler and John Grisham to mention two)

How about music?
Over the 20 years I've been developing software I've also found that a large percentage of Software Developers are also musicians and were often Music Majors in college before earning a living using a computer.
