Visual Studio Online is experiencing its second major outage in less than a month, with no current timetable for a fix. "Oh no, it's raining again"

This happens when you try to "Put a square peg in a round hole"  Microsoft might have thought like it provided Microsoft Word Online, it can also provide Microsoft Visual Studio Online.
But Visual Studio is a powerfull tool. It can't run in a Web Browser. Well unless you chop 80% of the requirements and dependencies of the software.

Yes, because it is a software designed for development purpose. It is not an Angry Birds game to work with browsers and run on 80MB Ram, the software requires a lot of memory and has many background threads that keep on running all the time.
Online version can never ever match the Offline version. Offline version is a killer, Online version, ummm no words!

Have a look at the image below, http://s6.postimg.org/ldsktdzfl/Screenshot_194.png[^] how can Microsoft imagine to run a software program that takes twice as much memory as the web browser itself and then run it smoothly.
I don't really understand this!

I prefer my clouds floating by high in the sky outside my window. Why anyone would trust doing software development with something that runs in "the cloud" is beyond me.

I'm usually sitting with 3+ VS 2010 open and 1-2 WinDbg. The desktop machine crawls on one single thing.
Hint: try !sym noisy and see how long the PDB resolving takes.
VS *in* browser? I thought VS online is a some kind of remote desktop thing.
If it's in browser, then I won't use it.

Last time I checked the VS online was rather azure version of TFS and not the IDE running in browser.
However reading the comments above I think the name can be somewhat misleading

That's what I thought too, but I was too lazy to confirm.
However (and as you point out): that really does show just how poorly they've explained (i.e. 'marketed') the product, if the first assumption of most people is that it's Visual Studio ... in the CLOUD, rather than TFS ... in the CLOUD. Perhaps they were worried what people would end up writing it TSFO.

I'd suggest that for a second version they add network management to the package; they could call it Team System Foundation Online Active Directory.

There, you see: you must be in a moribund corporate culture. 
Time to jazz things up with something new, EXCITING, and potentially disastrous (but bosses love it as they save on those expensive DBAs). If devops isn't your thing, maybe rewrite your most financially significant app in Node.js? Or perhaps you'd like to outsource your network to three guys in SF that just got funded by YC?

Ummm, whether they like it or not, they'll have to face the Nokia X OS now. Microsoft has started a new generation of smart phones, which are hybrid to the Android and Windows Phone.
Google can only face the reality.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer has a bit of a brand identity issue on its hands. Because of decisions made many, many years ago, Internet Explorer 6 has left a sour taste in the mouths of developers and consumers. Even some of the older iterations like IE7 and 8 are still loathed by consumers but later iterations like IE10 and 11 have fared much better in terms of providing a positive web browsing experience. They could call it 'Google Chrome' by Microsoft
