No, there is misspelling in the UK, but in the US it's systemic and in Canada it's catching on. Being an ex-Brit in Canada, I've been fighting a losing rearguard action for years. My favourites:
Loose instead of lose
"A different tact" (tack)
"A mute point" (moot)
"Chalk full" (chock)
"Per say" and variants instead of "per se" (latin for "as such")

OK, yes, one can do such, but only the intellectually-challenged would accept both as true when in the same msg. 
Thus, that's when the 3rd quote from 'old Alberto comes in handy!
