Even if they vote "yes", they won't be independent as they will still be ruled by Europe. This is just a vote to cut out the middle man.

Yep. Many hate the English. I actually had bother in Glasgow one time for being English, it's never happened before as evrything down to about Teeside has always been seen as a sort of buffer zone in the past, like the Scots but wi' tha brains kicked oot. Something has changed, my guess this is resentment left to fester since the 80s, a disappointing/illegal war starting labour government in the 90s and the current lot apparently using austerity as a smokescreen for to privatisation lots of public sector functions.

From what I saw, this is a big driver. The mantra is repeated "we've got a government nobody voted for"*. There is a feeling that Scotland is disconnected from the political process and the UK is run in London for London, so nothing has been done to fix the . Finally, the whole of Westminster politics has shifted right, leaving Scotland as a sort of socialist rump that wants to be more akin to the successful and more left wing Scandewegian countries and the thing that is preventing this is successive conservative gov'ts elected largely in the south & English countryside.** What it will mean is that Scotland will end up with successive left wing governments - Labour or SNP (who are broadly left wing).
It's similar to UKIP success in England - a reaction to an increasing professional political class that seems divorced from the constituency it is supposed to represent.
* There is a name for this: democracy.
** everything I've said also applies to large parts of northern England, but no-one is batting for that.

I had an interesting conversation with a Glaswegian about this very topic today. His opinion is that this is a load of hooey because Scotland has had devolution for quite a period of time, so they are being run from Edinburgh - he really doesn't get the whole London issue. As far as he's concerned, the problem is Wee Eck and SNP and not LibLabCon.

The independence is being presented as breaking away from the ruling English, which is of course bollocks as you say.
Also the referendum isn't legally binding and a yes vote does not mean independence happens.
At the commonwealth games the other month England flags were outselling Scottish ones, and when Derby played Rangers at the start of August the Rangers fans all had union flags and sang songs about keeping the union.
A lot of Scots are happy with the union, more than want independence, with plenty not giving a sh*t either way.
Problem is it is a lot easier to get people to vote for change than to vote for nothing to happen.
Also it is a lot easier to market the oppressive English Tory overlords, even if not true.
It'll be a lot closer but I still just about expect a no result.

I asked myself, "From whom is Scotland seeking independence?" Turns out, even learned people in the UK have a hard time answering that question since, for one, Scotland has seats in the UK parliament.
The second question is, what do England, Wales and Northern Ireland feel about this?

To me it is like a torso seeking independence from its legs. A cripplingly stupid idea. Scotland and England are so much part of one body, that one cant function without the other.

Thanks for the link, yeah it's important to many duds are getting through the cracks. And the sad part is the only up votes they're getting are from themselves using dummy accounts.

Who is it that approves such articles[^] ? This is merely a tip. 
Again: if every two lines of something gats approved to be an article, then the whole quality of the site will sink dramatically.
I wish the list of approvers would be public (or at least visible to moderators), so that they would explain me how and why they approved.

Approving of articles is a permission that is earned according to CP points in various disciplines; check your own status to see where it applies. And I suspect that any list of approvers would be quite large.

The question war half rhetorical, for I know how the approval system works. What I am bitching about is that I am under the impression that some "approvers" don't do their job correctly.

But that will always be the case. There are plenty of mediocre articles that get lots of +5 votes, probably because the author emails the link to all friends and colleagues. In fact you occasionally come across one and all the comments make it quite clear that this is happening. With a system as large as CP there will always be abuse.

But this is no reason to not try and improve the way it goes.
Reputation points are like entropy, they don't fade, and this encourages the fact that more and more people will be potential moderators, and the game goes on. If any, I am the best example of people who should normally not be allowed to moderate articles, but my rep points allow me to.
So I think:
- Rep points should fade.
- Requested rep points amount for privileges like article moderation should be set much higher.
