I would have loved a Yes vote, but only for the entertainment value.
Of course it had to be a No.
The upshot is more devolved powers to the Scots, and now, to the English, with an English parliament in the offing.
This will prove interesting.
It would be possible that Millibean could be the next PM thanks to the Scots Labour MPs, yet could be a minority in England.
It would be impossible for him to get through any legislation on English Only matters.
Oh how he would squirm!

That's the sting in the tail. But I was thinking, those who have been fervently behind a 'yes' vote, will they be less inclined to vote in a general election bearing in mind it's the likes of Brown and Darling who have been representing the 'no' campaign?

Rob Philpott.

There was a representative for Plaid Cumry (Or however the hell it is spelled) foaming at the mouth on the wireless this morning. Now that Scotland is getting more or less devo-max she doesn't want Wales to become a second-rate country. Even before the vote surely that would have been an improvement.

Having grown up in North Wales, the biggest problem (and I classify myself as English, btw) is that for decades it was used as a dumping ground for benefits claimants from Merseyside, Manchester and the Midlands.
Take a trip anywhere along the North Welsh coast from Saltney to Llandudno and you'll be hard pushed to find a welsh accent.
How do you know so much about swallows? Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

It's a resounding victory for Salmond, he has got exactly what he wanted without having to win a vote for it.
A young man in his late teens was living at home with his parents, he decided that he wanted to come and go as he pleased, he didn't want his parents messing with his stuff, he wanted them to give him more money, but he still wanted his mum to do his laundry and access to the fridge whenever he wanted it. So he told his mum and dad who, of course, said no. So he threatened to leave, he would move out, go and live on his own, and of course they just said "bless, he won't go, he couldn't cope, he knows he has it good here". But he kept pushing, he started looking for somewhere to live, left adverts for flat shares lying around the house, told them he was looking at places, and eventually told them he had found somewhere. And the panicked, they didn't want to lose him, so they said of course he could come and go as he pleased, they'd change the house, he could have his own front door into his own little suite of rooms, and they wouldn't go in, and of course if he left his dirty clothes by the connecting door then his mum would do it for him, and they would give him more money so he could have some independence from them, just as long as he stopped.
And that is exactly what Salmond has done to Cameron, played him like a pro.
When the referendum was first drawn up Salmond wanted the options to be In / Out / Devo Max. Cameron said no, in or out are the only options, he called Salmond's bluff, the Scots would never actually vote to leave, and he didn't want to give them anymore power, there was no need, they were going nowhere.
Except in the last week Cameron (and Clegg and Miliband) became extremely worried that the Scots might actually vote yes, they might actually go. So they panicked, and they promised Devo Max if the result was a No vote.
So now Salmond has the outcome he actually wanted, he gets to run a country but with the absolute security of Westminster picking up the tab and taking care of all the unpleasant, awkward bits. And he got what he wanted without having to win it in a vote.
Except of course the promise is one that none of them can actually deliver on, and attempts will be fought by English MPs.
The turnout was exceptional however, and it does show that if the electorate think they can actually affect their future by voting, and there is a real choice presented to them then they will be engaged, and they will vote.
It also highlights the identikit, reactionary, populist political parties that we currently have in the UK. There is no difference between the three main parties, there is no obvious difference in the future, there is no point to a vote.
This should show people that they need to demand real change, but they wont. They'll go back to the soporific main stream media, and let it control them.
Same as it ever was.

Next stop - Full blown Federalism . No pussy footing around . Its either that or completely scrap all the devolved powers. I would prefer the latter , but that ain't going to happen . So get ready for a new layer of government near you. Its the least worst option. The best would be if people grew up and realised what a parliamentary democracy is.We only need a few politicians to run the country . But since people are carried away by the illusion of engagement that modern communications gives , and they think that we live in a Democracy not a Parliamentary Democracy then Federalism seems to be the way forward .

Being half English and half Scottish it would have been a difficult decision for me, but since I currently live in the US I didn't have to make it.
I'm glad it was a "NO" result as I didn't want to be one of those multi-racial people who don't know which country they are really from. I'm from Britain!
