I am not a "tech enthusiast." I'm a well-paid consultant, and if Microsoft wants my feedback (other than I think the W8 / tile whole look is a major step backwards), they can damn well pay me to try their "not everything is working" software. Besides which, nobody listens to free advice. If they pay $250/hr for advice, then there's a better chance that they'll listen.
[edit]Ironically, the fact that Store apps are now sizeable, the start menu has returned, and W10 seems to have a more more sophisticated "snap" feature (but still limited to only 4 apps? Come on, there must be a third party plug-in that does much better) and additional desktops (stolen from the Mac, *nix, and 3rd party) does make is more interesting to me. As to "live" tiles, I still hate them. As to multitasking, someone should tell Microsoft that multitasking shrinks your brain.  [/edit]

That is how I am feeling about frackin web service frackin development using frackin WfrackinCfrackinF.
Why all the fugging magic config? I have tried my mightiest to find in ONE FRACKIN place an explaination of what goes where. It is all over the frackin place.

I feel your pain. It's grim. But, once you've got it right you just never go near it again and it's pretty straight forward from there.

I suspect you're doing it wrong. If you are trying to run a Web Service through IIS then you have brought the problems upon yourself.

I gave up WCF for the EXACT same reasons.
The code behind it all is stupid simple. The config is a total nightmare.
I now use ASP.Net Web API's. Very easy to set up, add to, and maintain.

You know it stands for Windows Configuration Foundation, don't you?
An app I worked on suffered 18 hours of down time because an admin hosed both web servers doing a vmware upgrade. Then once we got the systems rebuilt, nobody knew how to get WCF configured because it was done with some command line tool that one of the old developers ran on the system. Eventually one of the devs found a code change as a work around.
We now use MVC instead. I was so glad when I completely remove WCF from the project.

WCF is only useful if you think you might want to change protocols in the future, as you can change the config
Otherwise just don't use it - that's not what it's for!
(of course, I don't know why you are using it in the first place, there may be a good reason, but IMHO there are very few good reasons.)

But the real reason is: Microsoft is afraid that it comes to a Win 9.5 version and users confused this with Win 95.
