I don't agree with your view of support. I worked mostly on projects for many years, but always managed to do some support as well. Apart from helping people who would have been helped much more slowly (if at all) by the formal processes it gave me the following benefits.
1. A better understanding of what is really going on in the user community
2. Often, a problem / investigation is also a learning experience
3. It widened my contacts within the business so whenever I needed help from someone in country X or function Y, I had a good chance of finding it quickly and easily.
So by all means work mainly on projects, but never give up support completely.

Other softwares do show that but the information is sometimes changing so fast that you can't even read it.
To be honest... I don't care what they do, as far as they do it right and the software works ok

Start up task-manager, terminate the process, run setup again, google the error-messages, delete some temp-files, delete some registry-entries, run setup again.

Instead I deleted my registry and recreated it by hand.
Then I booted from the kernel and I'm actually just running the command prompt to type this.
It's working great.

Your first mistake is not understanding what's going on...
That's NOT a splash screen. It's an installation screen.

Is it a mistake to not understand what's going on? Or is it a failure? I believe it is most probably a failure, because a mistake sounds more like something that could've possibly been causes by someone else. I think in this case I'm more of a failure, because I should've looked up the type of screen I was actually dealing with before I could really understand whether or not 1 hour was really a long time. A mistake would've been something more like tripping over my power cord -- by accident -- and having the whole system shut down. I'm going to have to dock you on points for not being more specific.
You've most certainly failed the class now.
