I've already purchased mine. Second CD I've bought this year, the other being Leonard Cohen's new album.
Unfortunately, I've not had a chance to sit down and listen to the new Floyd CD.
Will do next weekend, after exams are finished.

He was definitely an influence, in particular in their early years but the guy was really strange.
I tried listening to it but it's just to out there.

He had two (I have both on vinyl!) I think the second was just called Barrett.
He wrote most of the early stuff and I believe that it was him that formed the group. He was weird and, apparently, impossible to work with. "See Emily Play", "Arnold Layne" and "Scarecrow" are pure psychedelic delights.
I really like the naivety of his solo work (although it's certainly not very "accessible"!) I can't remember the title of the track, but listen again to the song that starts "This is a song about a girl that I knew", another is Terrapin. Another track that's pure Syd is Golden Hair.

I'll have another try at listening to him. I really don't care for a lot of Floyd from that era. I bought Meddles when I first got back from my second trip across the big pond and I liked it but then ran on empty until Dark side of the Moon but my all time favorite is Wish you were here.

He may not work for you if you're not a fan of the first two albums (Piper and Saucerful). He played lead and sang on the first, but I'm not sure he performed at all on the second. The second had some Barrett material on it and he was still a strong influence.
Wish You Were Here was very reflective and the title track was at least a reference to Barrett and Shine On was about him.
His solo work is typified by breaking most of (all?) the musical rules with changes in tempo, time signature and key (isn't that Jazz?!!!) - actually sometimes more chaotic than avant-garde Jazz, which is why it is inaccessible. I think it worth a few listens as, like a lot of inaccessible music, perseverance often pays off. The first album marks the downward spiral of a musical genius (or maniac if you prefer - the line is never clear to me), but it's definitely not for everyone.
Your current sig makes me think of Barrett, although I think a lot of the issues were probably non-prescription!

I listen to and like many different genre's of music and am pretty open minded about it.
Pre-ordered their new, first in 20 years and last album "The Endless River" that was released yesterday. It is supposed to be an extension of "The Division Bell", some stuff they did then, jams and such and features their late key broadest Richard Wright.
I probably posted a link before but I really like the animation and there are some previews of a few of the songs on there and they sound pretty good.

Just had an email - in my Junk folder, but I check it every week in case something important got in there by mistake - and they are offering to insure my Mitsubishi Shogun for just £248 pa!
That's not bad, except for a few little details:
1) My insurance isn't due until next July.
2) I paid less than that last time I ensured my Shogun.
3) I've never asked them for a quote.
4) I sold the car three years ago...
