After changing from Blackberry to Android and loosing the availability to have infinite data even in a different country where I do live... I've lost the possibility to use Google maps freely wherever I am.
I've found that some weeks ago Nokia launched Here Beta for android.
It can't be installed from Google Play, but it offers a great navigation application for free with the possibility to download maps and use them offline.
In my last travel it has helped me a lot as in Copenhagen the car GPS went mad (streets with changed circulation direction) and NOKIA Here was updated...
If you did not knew about it and need a GPS application that works without a data connection try it, it works really well.
Time to go back to work now...

Yes, but:
Limitations
Cannot search or use navigation
Your saved map includes streets and maps data. Zoom in to see a detailed view of your offline map.
Certain features, like satellite, terrain, indoor maps, and 3D buildings will not be available offline.
Features that require a network connection, like directions and Navigation aren’t available offline, either.
Nokia Here works perfectly without data and it navigates you to your destination properly with voice guidance.

Ah. Didn't notice that. I just remembered it was possible to use maps offline (including the gps position). Did that quite few times already when I was doing some city trips just to be be able to find out where I actually was

I did not even know that Google maps could be accessed offline... It's been after following your link when I've seen that comment. ^^¡

That really doesn't work on my Nexus 7 - hangs, lags, and black screen...not a good start!
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

|

|
|
That's strange... in my Galaxy S4 it works perfectly...
|
|
|
|

It may be that the app is checking the phone ID and so forth, and failing because the Nexus 7 doesn't have one!

I will, thanks. Ben looking for a good navigation app without data download for a while.

At the beginning they had a problem with ccleaner and this kind of cache cleaning applications (voices got deleted and it was impossible to get them back), but now that they have solved it in my phone it is a super-solid app that works like charm.

It wont install on my Galaxy S, probably too old. Oh well. Back to google maps and massive data charges...

There is also NAVFREE and MAPFACTOR, both work, not as high end as HERE, but...
|
|
|
|

There is also NavFree[^] which works fine offline, and uses OSM data so you just download the map via the app and off you go.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Yes, I've tried that one, and also MapFactor which proved to be a little bit better (given what I've tested here)...
But both of them are really far away from NOKIA Here... they've made a really nice piece of work here... a pity it is not working on your device

I've heard rumors that the Android OS gives less accurate GPS positioning data to non-Google apps (allegedly Garmin comments), I don't think I believe the rumors but Google is getting more and more hostile / aggressive so I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
Personally I don't use Google for anything other than searching...

No idea about that... the app just works for me...

Really? I went from Android to Blackberry.
I like not being hacked. It makes me spill less beer.

Yes, I know... I would have kept bb... I was ultra happy with it, and there are plenty of things that simply worked better. but there were also a lot of things that simply were not posible...
I can tell my Android experience is a half-happy-half-sad one... but it was a company decision and...

Yes I knew that one, also NAVFREE, but not any of those are a high end product like HERE...

This morning weather forecast included the statement "showers everywhere except for Wales"

Neo, stop messing up the matrix, they want rain again !
if(this.signature != "")

MessageBox.Show("This is my signature: " + Environment.NewLine + signature);

else

MessageBox.Show("404-Signature not found");

Welsh? Surely all they need to do is a Rain Dance?

That was actually a comment on the daily hygiene routine...

Isn't that because they're getting "torrential downpours on a biblical scale" (as usual) then?
