I think we're having dinner for 12, so I will too busy and probably too pished to focus on the bottle let alone a tv.
[stop press]
Our hostess just screamed "Oysters!" from the kitchen then ran out of the front door. I think it will be a good New Year celebration.

Last time we were here for New Year. 4 dozen oysters entered the kitchen to be opened for the started. By the time I finished opening them and checking the few that looked dodgy only about two dozen remained. No idea what happened to them.

We don't do it here in the states...we don't want to offend anyone.
And we've lost our sense of humor.

That is "Boldog Uj Évet Kivanok!" or "Happy New Year" in Hungarian. As the phrase is too bloody long and far too hard to say even sober, all but every Magyar will shout "BUÉK!" at the given hour.
So will I as an adopted Hungarian.

Never heard of it, and watching TV is a boring way to spend New Years Eve. I'd much rather be out and about with friends and fireworks and singing and all that. Life's too short.

It is also a tradition to watch it in Denmark. I don't think I have seen it in the past 15 years or so. Another traditional TV show is ski jumping from Garmisch on January 1st.

Never heard of it, but I'll be doing it tonight. Making dinner for one, that is.

Unfortunately, I was watching three belly dancers, and a handful of rent-a-dates at the next table, so I missed it.
