Peanuts. I just finished putting together a Gigabyte Brix Pro with a mSATA 512 GB SSD and a 1 TB SATA SSD data drive - then mounted the whole thing on the back of my monitor. Works so well I am thinking of making another one....

I'm thinking about getting one, but am not sure I have install discs for all the junk on my computer. I might just dual boot for a while until I'm sure or just wait until Windows 10.
I need a new, better ventilated, case too, so....

Windows 8.1 and 10 (64 bit) require more CPU features than Windows 8 and below. See here[^] to get the Windows Upgrade Assistant. Also use Sysinternal's coreinfo to see if your processor has the capabilities necessary...
It turns out that I need a different processor to do my upgrade since I also wanted to upgrade to 64 bit Windows 8.1.
Now, I've got an excuse...

CPU-Wise, I am two steps back from bleeding edge (Ivy Bridge i7 vs. Haswell and Broadwell.) I'm tempted to splurge and build a brand new "well" system this summer as in Broadwell and Maxwell. Crucial needs to rename their drive Speedwell and I'm sold!

Is it just me, or is the TFS on line UI really complicated and not at all user-friendly?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

You have to ask?
I wonder if the designers pass things by normal people. If said people can figure it out quickly the designers scream in anguish and run back to their offices.

Hi All,
Just got off the phone with a scammer with an Indian accent (not being racial) call Dave(?) from Wimdows Security of Microsoft! I was a bit bored and played along got me to open the event viewer and looked in horror at all exclamation marks and red crosses. I then was a little surprised when read the script and asked me to open Google Chrome (!) as because this was a free call he could not give me the code to allow me to use Internet Explorer (?).
Sadly at this point my mobile rang me with details of a contract role so had to ring off, was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience...

I've been getting this calls regularly for a while. I always scream at them and tell them they are scammers and that they should get real job. I then block the number.

You should bait them instead... You could say "That's funny, because I don't have a computer", then listen to them stammer before ending the call (a work colleague's trick).
But it is also fun to say "Oh dear... I have 10 computers. Can you tell me which one has the problems?". Then proceed to waste their time - "you mean this Amiga 500? What about this Tandy 1000? What about this Casio FX-83 (calculator)?"

That could be fun.

I can only wish they would call me regularly. Kinda makes me sad that they don't. I love toying with those people. I will drag them on for hours.

You know there are chat lines for lonely people like you?

Hmm.
Look, if the CP Lounge decides that you're lonely, you don't get to debate the point.

I had these people in a quite extended conversation one time, out of curiosity following all their instructions ("10,000 items in the event viewer?! Oh no! Those are all viruses that have infected your system!") until they got to the point where I was to download an executable from their web site and run it, at which point I refused to go any further and then engaged the caller and two of his supervisors in an extended discussion about the ethics of what they were doing and offering the question whether they might personally prefer doing something better with their lives than preying on people who don't know anything about their computers. They were by that point denying that they had started the call by claiming to be Microsoft, and I was actually quite surprised at how long they were willing to talk with me once it became clear I actually knew what I was looking at and that I wasn't going to do whatever it was they wanted (which seemed to me most likely to be "purchase a useless 'security' product from them," although maybe it was something more malicious). I could only imagine that they were willing to talk so long because they wanted to avoid me reporting them to someone, but I'm not really sure, maybe the employees there are so clueless that they actually don't know they are being employed to scam people.
Chrome didn't come up on that call, though. Maybe they've now moved beyond a simple exe file to a Chrome extension or something, since that might set off alarm bells for fewer people.

A friend of a friend got a call like that. Ended up doing what they said, downloaded some nasty thing, and they held all of his data ransom. Not sure if he paid or just lost all of his data, but it was bad.
