They would have had to to go to the IMF, they wouldn't even have had EU membership signed off yet. It would have been a disaster.
What both the US and UK govs should do is buy the oil off their producers at say 60$ a barrel, and stock pile it. After Suadia gives up playing its games and the proce goes back to 75$ it can be sold for a profit.

When you say "we" ... are you an expatriate Briton or an Anglophile Frenchman?

I've heard 75, 80 and 100, but those are not fair prices; they are limits.

Munchies_Matt wrote: For whatever reason oil prices are being held low. Can you prove that statement? It looks like a fair price to me, as determined by the market.
Munchies_Matt wrote: That's going to change and prices will go up. Not unless there's either more demand (where would that come from?) or less supply.

Munchies_Matt wrote: Oil price is not governed by fair market, its governed by a cartel, OPEC Ah, so Russia and America are part of it nowadays? As is ISIS?
Why should OPEC have to cut their supply? If the muricans want more expensive oil, let them cut their own supply.

Munchies_Matt wrote: America isn't exporting, so what it does wont affect the global price. It is a producer. Since it produces more, it imports less. Means that less countries can sell oil to the Americans. So, yes, I'd expect that it would affect the price.
Munchies_Matt wrote: You can also add in Libya now producing oil, softening demand from asia and
Europe, and you have an oversupply situation. So why would prices rise? Do you expect Libya to cut oil? Expecting more demand from Europe? Or do you expect that America will "liberate" the OPEC countries?

I'm not talking about where else you go for answers and the like (I'm sure we all use StackOverflow), but what other forums or resources do you contribute to on a regular (or irregular) basis? Do you write articles or blogs for other forums? If so, which ones.
Just curious as I spotted a couple of CPers over an another forum recently, and wondered if this was common.

I work for a land resource agency (a Conservation Authority - CA) in Ontario. There are over 30 such agencies and we're one of the largest. Across those agencies there are only a handful of programmers/database guys. All CAs have tons of data, especially geographic and they pretty much all have GIS staff. In a typical CA, a GIS specialist also looks after non-spatial databases, looks after IT infrastructure and sometimes writes code.
CAs have a closed message board and I'm a regular contributor to a forum called "OK, You're IT", but sometimes to GIS specific ones too.
I've also lectured at every annual CA GIS/IT conference since they began (I was one of the founders), covering topics like data normalization, SQL Injection on websites, advanced querying techniques and application development.
I use SO, but I don't contribute there (being a generalist), they have contributors who have much more focus on specific technologies (as we do here). I used to contribute to VB and Access forums in the past.

I have a blog for Excel and VBA, mainly a private matter but not locked from public view.
Also, there are a number of sites where I'll waste time explaining the right way to get things done with Excel and VBA.
Other than that, I've been known to contribute my wisdom to some political forums.
