It's horrible, especially if you live alone (as I did when I worked like this).
Though given you live in France, I would have assumed lack of human contact would be a boon.[^]
[Edit]
Just noticed the URL on the image- I googled "Jingoism" for images and that was the first non-US one. So Jingoism not patriotism. #Ironyfail

It's definitely not for everyone. I've been doing it for 7+ years now, and I'm fine with it. Mind you, we all meet face-to-face at the office once a week, and whenever we cancel that meeting for a few weeks in a row (for whatever reasons), I do start to feel stressed out.
The important thing, I think, is to keep "normal" work hours (whatever that means for you) and keep an active social life outside of those hours. Working alone doesn't otherwise bother me.
Before that, I've always had a 1+ hour commute, and 7 years later, I still don't miss it one bit.

Going by the replies, I can't see what must have been in the OP's message to get it removed.
What taboo was broken?

Nothing, from what I saw. Just that he hated working from home and that it was isolating.

Hmm. It appears that some people have decided that everything and everyone in CP has to agree with their political views.
Personally, I find that unacceptable.

Hmmm, just seen the reply below. Fat_Boy was deliberately courting controversy with the whole Israel thing (he said so at least once), though getting rid of the message because of it is going way too far IMO.

I think we've all had "less than optimal" discussions with him in the past, but that does not mean that anyone has the right to abuse the CP voting mechanism to take away his right to air an honest opinion.

He was calling for boycott of Israel in his signature. Very political, completely inappropriate here and has nothing to do with coding from my point of view.

Cool!
I'll have to boycott Israel in my sig, too!
Or Syria. I'm allowed to boycott Syria, right?
@rseholes who impinge on people's freedom of speech (whether I agree with their views or not) get short shrift, from me.
The CP voting system was not instigated to be used for political means.

I understand your point of view, but i hold a different one. This is a software site and we should not get into political wars on it.

Thanks for clearing that up. We have differing views on something.
Now, according to your rules about how to deal with things that you disagree with, I shall vote your posting as abuse.
The next time that someone says or posts something that you disagree with, either discuss it with them in a civilised way (moving it to the soapbox if it's political), or shut the f*** up -- DO NOT abuse the CP voting mechanism.

Controvesial political views should not be aired on a software site. From my point of view they do not belong to here
They undermine the puepose of the site

Then you discuss it like a civilised human being. You do not snipe like a coward from hiding, and you do not vote something as abuse unless it is abuse.

I do not plan to discuss politics at a site that explicitly forbids discussing politics. I come to it to share my software knowledge

Then you go for option B: Shut the f*** up.
Now, how do you explain your politically motivated abuse of the CP voting system?
Or will you be a much bigger man than I expect you will be, and just apologise for that abuse?

You are correct. It's a violation of Lounge rules and there is nothing wrong with ignoring it and there is also nothing wrong with reporting it.
I think Mark's just looking to fight.

Saying boycotting Israel is controversial would also be a controversial political opinion in quite a few places.

Voltaire never said: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
But that doesn't make it any worse.
It was Evelyn Beatrice Hall that ascribed it to Voltaire

Let's be honest: There isn't a person alive who genuinely has enough information to know what is right and what is wrong in every circumstance.
Opinions and beliefs are all formed from partial information -- i.e. not enough intelligence -- and, co-incidentally, it is only people with not enough intelligence who assume that all their beliefs are totally right.
"I refuse you the right to express your opinions because they fall outside what I want to believe" is just plain wrong, on so many levels -- and it is certainly not what the CP voting system is for.

I do not think a voltare meant tht a software site should publish political messages. In general i agree there ahould be a venue to vent them out. But not at a software site

If you had actually read my message you would have noticed that Voltaire probably never said anything such.
Point is though that free speech is the base of all freedoms.
I'm not going to jump any conclusions though and assume that you were the one that reported the messages.
But if you were, I'd like to ask you if you tried to discuss it with him in before hand or not.
