I've come around to thinking that Microsoft trying to be all things to everyone, trying to cover every possible market (poorly in many cases) is what's actually causing it problems.
Apple's principle of keeping tight control of the hardware is starting to look like a wise move. Microsoft isn't free to make major changes to it's products, it's at the mercy of whatever cheap and nasty PC manufacturers put out (much like Android).

Simplifying the UI

Making changes that are actually a new release.
This release, although costing a lot of money, just fixes things that should have been fixed in an update to a previous release, for no cost, because you paid for that release and deserve for it to be fixed if it was deficient in any way.
Once you lose your pride the rest is easy.

They already went down that route. Windows 8.1 was a free update to 8.0.
We also don't know yet what Windows 10 will cost in terms of upgrade, so I don't know what you're basing that claim on. Also, don't forget that for devices 7" and smaller, Windows 8.x is already free for OEMs.

It shouldn't cost anything if it is not bringing anything new to the release.

(And now that we know that 10 will be free to 8.x (and even 7) users, does this change your stance on 10 at all? I do agree it's what 8 should've been to begin with, but then if that's how it worked, I'd prefer to be on 11 already)

Hi Too All,
Regulars will know it's my first day as a contractor so user name will change as well as profile pic (new one taken this morning in a suit) Was going to change everything at work but the network policy is not to allow any social media, downloading, memory sticks, CD's, Dvd's, fun of any kind  . I had to get special dispensation to change a mouse (it was sticky! ). Forgot my log in to the PC, got lost with office 2012, standard Monday. On the plus side it looks like I can solve various problems they were having. Sorry for not replying to posts but phone had to be silent and I wasn't allowed to log in. So far so good  so what!

Well I have had the same thing with my Robot, Parents moved so all my stuff (that I had left in their house/garage moved as well) still have to find the box it is hiding in... I seem to recall it had an Ardunio attached I was debugging the drive code, PWM still more mystery and luck on my part (I say luck as I passed that bit of my EE degree!)
