does that apply to VB jockeys? as the last time I debugged some VB code I think it was closer to 10 bugs per line

I always thought programming is the process of putting on weight?
GOTOs are a bit like wire coat hangers: they tend to breed in the darkness, such that where there once were few, eventually there are many, and the program's architecture collapses beneath them. (Fran Poretto)

Newbies Think Their Ideas Will Be Stolen
I think it is interesting that so many beginners who have a great idea for a piece of software or a book think that their idea will get stolen by someone.
Writing Apps: Giving Them Away
I've written a few apps that were for specific purposes and it's difficult to even give them away.
Well, you might think the apps were no good, but they were okay. It's all relative.
Anyways, now, I'm giving away a copy of my free book, Fiction Writing Gems (Kindle download)*[^] (until 12am PST 02/10/2015) and it is difficult to even give it away too.
*Previously published as Fiction Writer's Fire Starter
My Point?
My point, no reason to think your ideas are going to get stolen. You can't even give them away.

Yeah, I learned that lesson all too well... That's why I stopped charging for the first book in my series...

I just searched your name on amazon and found your book. I will have a read and let you know what I think.
Very good to find another person interested in writing here. Nice to see your books on Amazon.
Keep on learning, keep on writing.

Was just about to say the same. For others: Here[^] is the link.

Heh, thanks for the free promotion, guys...
Not sure why only the first two books show up under that link... Will have to look into that when I get home from work...

It's still not free, because I have to sign up for a 30 day Kindle trial. And then I get charged.

No, it's free. That's not on prime thing, he just set the price as free for now.

Thanks so much for mentioning that. I appreciate you taking time to explain.

No, it's cost is $0.00 today until 12am PST, even without signing up.
It is totally 100% free without buying anything else. I promise.
You are right about the Kindle OLL (online lending libary) which my book is also a part of, but you don't have to enter that to get my book 100% free today.
Thanks,

If you search amazon for "Fiction Writing Gems" you can find the book on your own and you should see the sale price as $0.00.
If you purchase the book today by clicking the [buy] button, then Amazon will charge you $0.00.
It should be available in all countries fro $0.00 so if it isn't it is something with Amazon and I'd appreciate if you let me know.
Thanks,

... ridiculous.
As I said, free?

My point is:
"What is your e-mail address?"
"My e-mail address is: "
"Do you have an Amazon.com password?"
"No, I am a new customer."
"Yes, I have a password: "
"Forgot your password?"
THAT is what determines the meaning of the word "free"?
Maximum twaddle ... thanks. But no thanks.

Oh, yes, Amazon is a problem that way. They require you to sign in to know who you are.
CodeProject is unreasonable like that too. Terrible. Terrible.
That's why I am not a member of CodeProject or Amazon and I never use Google search either.
I don't like any of the web browsers either. I have entered this via punched cards on a IBM 650, because keyboards are intrusive too.
Am i funny yet?

TBH, anyone who needs a book like that should not be allowed to write. If you learn by imitating, rather than by doing, you don't learn to write anything worth reading.
Ideas of mine do get stolen, and I've had entire web pages copied word for word, but I have more ideas every day before elevenses than I could write in an entire lifetime, and the stuff I've committed to web pages is stuff I'm not interested in selling, so I don't really give a toss unless money changes hands.

Thank you for your input. The team here in Alaska is evaluating your response and will determine very shortly if you are indeed the winner or not. It can be a lengthy process since the committee has to get 100% agreement from everyone so we thank you for your patience and hope the best for the absolute outcome under all circumstances.

Hello,
Any speech recognition expert/researcher here?
Thanks

You talk and we'll tell you if it's speech or not.

I recognise speech nearly every time I hear it.

Nearly? You're not yet too old!
Or you do "recognise speech nearly every time you speak it."

Nope: there are times when I can't hear what is being said. Or at least when I don't want to hear what is being said...
