HSBC (Switzerland) were advising its customers on ways of avoiding paying tax, this has created a bit of fuss, I was implying that this was not a isolated case (Swiss banks helping its customers avoiding tax in their home countries - which you have to admit is hardly news)
and that the countries involved somehow "reclaimed" said lost tax revenue by taking part of Switzerland as payment (France was picked purely at random but please feel free to substitute Italy, Germany or any other country of choice)
I know I missed the joke icon but I assumed that such a comment would not be taken seriously sorry for that assumption

Hi!
I am in a quest for affordable and very portable laptop to ease my commuting experience (and when I seek refuge from family  ).
Yesterday I've stumbled upon afore mentioned machine (older review).
One I found is barely used and upgraded with 256 GB ssd disk and 8GB of ram.
Specification:
Intel 2117U
8GB ram
SSD 300GB
11.6'' monitor
Intel HD Graphics 4000
USB 3.0 & USB 2.0 port
HDMI port
In theory this is well above VS2013 minimum requirements, what's your verdict?
Price is also the factor, here (Croatia) similar laptop (but with less ram and HDD instead of SSD) costs around 570$, this one I can get under 390$.
Only constructive advice, please.

My biggest concern would be the display. 1366x768 is going to be painful with any sort of IDE. IF you're a text editor/console dev it might be tolerable, but you'll still have a lot less usable space than you're used to on a real monitor.
Otherwise, the specs look decent as long as you're not trying to do something like build Firefox or Chrome every time you click compile.

Apparently either one of last weeks patch Tuesday updates failed to install successfully when I kicked them off Friday night; or they pushed something new over the weekend...
I've got 41 minutes and counting on a self destructforced reboot countdown.

We start with a 6 hour countdown window. I usually opt to find a good time to close everything on my own and then let the restart commence.

I assume IT figures the gap between pushing the patches (generally Wednesday morning) and the scheduled install (Friday 9pm EST) is plenty of time. And since I added a Friday afternoon reminder I generally don't have a problem. OTOH the 1 hour drop dead timer is an improvement from the situation years ago. When I first started here it was only, IIRC 15 or 30 minutes, which was great for blindsiding you with forced closes and lost work if you didn't notice it when it first appeared.

I know you have already rebooted but...
Assuming you are admin on the box, you can stop the Windows Update service and then the countdown goes away. You have to be careful though, as Microsoft sometimes restarts the service on it's own. There is a way to keep that from happening though.
My windows update service is always off, I turn it on and update then reboot then turn it off again. I have full control over the updates, at least as far as I can. 
Jack of all trades, master of none, though often times better than master of one.

They push the updates through an MS product called Software Center (they also push application installs through it) not Windows Update; and various attempts I've made in the past to subvert it (and all of the predecessors they used beforehand) through my local admin have all failed.
