Are there any CP members from Myanmar that can recommend how to travel to Ngwe Saung?
I will be traveling with my wife and 13 year old nephew so hopping on the back of a truck, my favored way to travel when I am alone, is not an option.
I am traveling from my home in Buriram, Thailand and will most likely fly from Bangkok(BKK or DMK) to Yangon(RGN). From Yangon I would like to travel by train or air to Pathein (48km from Ngwe Saung) where I would like to arrange for a van or bus to Ngwe Saung.
I would prefer to travel by train to be able to see the countryside, unless the travel time is too long, but air is also an option. Is there a train from Yangon to Pathein?
Bus is an option and although drive time from Yangon to Ngwe Saung is estimated to be 5 hours the bus schedule indicates 8 hours which may not be so comfortable depending on the condition of the roads and the bus. I usually have to sit on the bench seat, with the monks, in the back of the bus because my legs are too long to fit comfortably in a normal seat on local buses in SE Asia.
I have found airport maps that show a domestic airport in Pathein(BSX) but can't seem to get a flight schedule to/from Yangon(RGN).
I have been reading about student demonstrations in Yangon lately. Where in Yangon are they taking place so I can avoid that area. Would it be better to fly into Naypyidaw or Mandalay (the other international airports) to avoid Yangon while these demonstrations are going on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an awesome trip. Would love to see some of that country with a backpack and hiking shoes, I know you would too!

I have wanted to travel in Myanmar for a long time but the political situation made it a bit doggy. There is some fighting in the north (Shan State) near the Chinese border,and there is always a possibility of trouble in Rakhine State, but we will be in Yangon Division and Ayeyarwady Division so it should be relatively safe.
There are student demonstrations in Yangon these days that have been getting violent so we will have to avoid them, but all in all Yangon is pretty safe. We may stay for a day or two, most likely on our return from the shore to see the city but the Bay of Bengal (Ngwe Saung Beach) is where we are heading.

She would prefer to go by air and the closest airport is 48km from Ngwe Saung in Pathein. The runway is unpaved gravel so you can get some idea about the remoteness of the area to where we are going.
Travel in the Ayeyarwady Delta is pretty primitive. It has been described as like going to the shore in Thailand in the 1980's before the beach resorts were built up with high rise hotels and all the night life that comes with them. It is a step back in time.

Yeah I know what you mean. My neighbor asked me one time about where I went with my backpack and I told her I was roughing it and she replied; "Motel 8". She was not the outdoorsy type, bless her heart she passed a couple of years ago just before I moved here.

I'm afraid I'm like Pu, when we travelled Myanmar it was 5 star and almost a decade ago. Driving to Inlay lake was with a fairly modern mini bus so they may be available. I believe the tourist industry has exploded since then so it will probably be pretty pricey to hire a vehicle and driver.
Roads were better than India and the drivers tended to be polite. The fact that they have to drive on the wrong side of the road is bloody scary though.

I think I will contact a travel agency in Yangon and see how much it will cost.

Well, I resigned this week.
Yes - I do have another job to go to. Closer to home, hopefully with a component of web development (which I want to get into more)
An hour less commuting, which will be nice (not that I mind the commute itself - but getting home an hour earlier will be mighty fine!)
I am expecting some negotiation from my current employer - there is an opening for a Software Development Manager (which had previously been discussed, then dropped from the budget) but we'll see what transpires!

what we really need is a software dev manager - a man manager first and foremost, with a technical side so they can get fingers dirty, but capable of devising and implementing processes and ensuring they are followed
The software we produce at present isn't the best (!) quality, and I believe that is because there is no documented process, each dev just does what they fancy (so we use an ORM, linq to SQL and EF in different parts of the application, for example)
It nees a 'strong hand' to come in and lick it into shape - the individual devs are clever, but have no direction.

The wife recently bought the Meghan Trainor CD (I know, that's the first problem). When she tried to play it in her laptop, it wouldn't play, the drive wasn't even showing in Media Player, nor could she see the tracks using Windows Explorer. She has played many other CDs in this same laptop with no issues. I then tried to play the new CD on my Windows 7 PC and it played fine there.
I've already checked the drivers and everything is up to date, according to Asus anyway. And I've spent a considerable amount of time searching the internet to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas as to why what appears to be a normally formatted audio CD will not play on Win 8.1 while many others play just fine.
P.S. I've also sent an email to Asus, but I'm not holding my breath.

It could be either the DRM or the Encoding or security permissions to do with the DRM.
Running a process monitor trace on both system might help narrow down what it is.
Windows 8.x has some strange things that happen.

I had a similar problem with the new Pink Floyd CD I bought it and it wouldn't play on my machine but would on my son's. Mines an older LG but never had a problem with any CD playing on it.

Silly question I know - but you are sure it's a CD not a DVD? I don't think 8.1 plays DVDs out of the box - don't you need 3rd party software?

Pretty sure it's a true CD. I checked the properties in Windows and both CDs show as being formatted with CDFS. I also used ImgBurn to check both discs and the information returned was essentially identical except for the total data size.

The usual cause in these cases is demonic infestation caused by the ripeness of your expectation that there is a rational answer, which attracts the evil entities like rotting meat attracts horse-flies.

Can anyone recommend a free tool that allows you to deploy a sql statement to many different sql servers/dbs with a single click?
