According to a fellow kayaker who was reading the EA gauges, Dartmoor had 118cm in one hour over the weekend. The river Dart was nuts - I would guess 12 feet higher than when I would normally go paddle it.

Over here across the Channel there was also a lot of wind at night, and everything was cracking and clapping outside: roofs, windows, trees ... a special kind of noise, a bit scary.

We had some serious thunder and lightning around 4am - well loud!

I did not hear any thunders, but loud wind was sufficient to keep me awake from 2 to 4 a.m. ... a bad start for Monday's work

My back fence* has been banging in the wind for a few weeks. A couple of days ago I noticed it was rock solid and no more banging.
I'm guessing a neighbour got annoyed enough to do something about it, proving my theory that if you ignore a problem for long enough eventually it will go away.
*The other side of the fence is a shared parking area, according to the deeds 3 other houses actually have shared responsibility for the fence, but I doubt any of them know it - at least two of them are rented.
