Not sure if this has been discussed lately (lots of noise from all the Microsoft haters), but you can still get Windows 10 as an upgrade for free.
I just purchased a refurbished laptop that came with Windows 7. I downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool[^], ran it and chose Upgrade to Windows 10.
Very fast, very simple. No problems. 3rd upgrade I've done and not a single problem yet.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Also worked for me 2 weeks ago when I installed from the installer USB and selected Windows 10 Professional x64 with no key, then when I booted in to Windows 10 entered a Windows 7 Professional key from the sticker on the side and it activated with no issues.

Didn't realise it'd accept w7 keys.
Now I have a use for them before using up my w10 keys

A lot of OEM machines were pre-registered in the Microsoft database, so you can update them to 10 even now...

I love MS but my laptops are still running on Windows 7 and 8.1. I don't want to [^crash] in the middle of my development

Go on, do a deep filling - why don't you? Oh and while you're at it, why not make sure that the filling starts to kill the nerve. Okay, so changed dentists now and the first procedure he's going to have to do on me is a root canal. Oh joy.

Not a lot of fun - I've had one after a filling was put in that quickly became temperature sensitive.
But...it's uncomfortable while it;s done, but it doesn't take too long and the pain from the tooth vanishes and never comes back. Which is well and truly worth it.
I just wish there was a way to send your teeth to the dentist via FedEx and get 'em back two days later...

The only thing we don't have is dentists who use toxic chemicals like bleach in our mouths*.

Same here. Why I'm annoyed is because this appears to be the sole fault of my last dentist. The new one was horrified at how much had been "filled". His impression was that the last one was done by someone who was new to the industry; he got that spot on.

Looks like this "bug" of the dentist had serious and bad consequences for you. 
Thats only one reason because I prefer staying healthy and going to work instead to the doctor

I cracked a tooth that had already been filled, the dentist offered to "save the tooth". When he elaborated that is would be saved by root canal therapy, I had him remove the blasted thing. I am NOT a pussy honest...

good luck mate - I have a strange nerve bifurcation it took my new dentist a while to get the hang of - these days he just injects lots of anaesthetic, everywhere - specially after I gave him the 'now, Im going to cup your ghoulies in my hand, you hurt me and I'll hurt you' line (he'd never heard that before)

Mrs Wife suffered from a plumber-turned-dentist.
She was having a post+crown done. Apparently the post was the right fit but the sc^msucker did his best to force it in. A visit or two later he was done. The result, it seems, is that he used so much force he actually cracked the side of the tooth and now a root canal was added (by a new dentist) and then the whole post/crown had to be refitted. A couple kilo-dollars sailed away with that.
Slightest silver lining - I had an appointment with the sc^msucker, too, but had to delay it and the Mrs. went well before I did or he'd have gotten to both of us.
