When we were kids my father, who was a dairy farmer used to bring home a billy of freah milk every night. It had the cream on top and never bothered with any pasteurisation. It just seemed normal in those days
That was proper milk. Today's milk tastes watered down and bland in comparison.

Snap. Except for me I had an after-school job bringing in the herd for the afternoon milking on a family friends farm. Used to ride home with a gallon of fresh milk slung over the handlebars. Mum made butter quite often. Them's the days.

If the dairy are willing to sell raw milk then they trust their hygiene practices - why would you then pasteurise it?
(Keep it in a glass container in the fridge - it will last quite well.)

I'll keep to pasteurizing it for now. We don't know the dairy and we don't know their standards. I would say that we could most probably drink it raw, but then I would need to buy it every day as I wouldn't be happy keeping it for long periods.
I am currently looking for good glass bottles for the very porpoise of storing the milk.

Why pasteurize? We used to drink raw milk straight after filtering it...

One of the truly weird things I saw on my first trip to the other side of the Atlantic was milk on a shelf and in a box. Having (long ago) abruptly lost my taste for milk (although not diairy!) I never had the stuff cross my gum and wallow in my gut.
Now that stuff is available in the US - aside from possible storage in an emergency shelter - I can't imagine why anyone would buy the stuff. Even camping - one of the things you did when you went camping was "you did without milk" (unless the Mrs. recently had a baby, and that was not very good for coffee).
Which, whilst we're not quite on the subject, have you considered adding Koumiss [^] to your milk product production?
