To listen music I'm using MusicBee and it is really nice... like mediaplayer but it remembers the song it was playing when you shut it down so you can continue from there...
To copy CDs... and so I'm using cdburnerxp... free and works wonderfully well.
It is somehow incredible that Microsoft is following this path... it is incredible... windows 10 is nice but those things...

Insecure connection!
The owner of dub111.mail.live.com has configured his website wrong
Now, let's see - who should we contact about that? Who owns live.com? Who could be incompetent enough to configure the site wrong?

It looks like all UWP apps disappeared from my start menu. And when I have Edge or the Windows Store apps open, their icons are missing from the task bar and they don't show up in Alt-Tab either. It's like Windows in trying to remove the new features they want everyone to use...

Yeah. Installed the update yesterday and they prompted me to login. But I was in no way FORCED to do so. I could easily just close that window.
What annoyed me was that I shut it down with "Shutdown and install updates" and needed the PC an hour later again. It booted up to "installing updates now. Please do not turn off your computer" and it's sweet time (including a few automatic reboots) to finally show that login screen. Is it finished then? No, there comes an annoying full screen about "Hey, I'm updated now".. Of course you couldn't have installed the updates before actually shutting down... they need to get installed when you urgently need it booting up

Really? I tried to close it down and it just popped up again... Maybe I should have tried harder... 
My system has installed several more updates today, requiring several reboots which took quite some time all of them.
And I had to manually search for and install Media Feature Pack[^], reinstall Java and edit the Firefox config just to be able to see videos on Instagram and other similar sites! Took me some time just to figure out how to solve it 
This is the worst F-Up of my system Microsoft has EVER seen fit to release. I hope it'll take a long time before they do something similar again!

I haven't used it for more than like 15 minutes after the updates. So I might get nagged again.. I also didn't try to watch any videos so far. 
Only thing I noticed at first glance, was that the changed start menu which seems to be a big UI mess.
I'm glad that I don't have Java installed. So that's one thing they can't mess up on my machine 
But it looks like I might still be in for a surprise. I think after the last big update in fall '15 I had to reinstall everything (all the Windows Universal Apps wouldn't work (even "calc.exe" - btw whoever chose to "redesign" that app should get fired) and told me to reinstall from the Windows Store. Problem was: The Windows Store App wasn't working either and told me to reinstall from the Windows Store. So after trying to mess around with it for a bit I just scratched it...)

Well, apparently I need it to view videos on quite a large amount of web pages (Instagram included - but strangely enough not Farcebook).
My point is that it might have been installed unbeknownst to you to cover some functionality that you didn't know requires java?!?!?

I don't have a lot of software installed on my machine at home. I really can't imagine that a website like Instagram requires Java (and I don't bother to find out). I regard any website trying to run Java as malicious. :P
As for my reasons to keep my OS free of Java:
I've once botched my OS by trying to uninstall an old JRE version. Since then I try to make sure to not install anything related to Java ever again. As far as I remember, I didn't need it once in the last 5+ years.

I often think that the Ig Nobel brigade deserve their own award for daftness.
Yes, some of the research listed is seriously stupid but things on there like finding that people scratching whilst looking in the mirror ease itches on the other side of their body are clearly interesting and valuable.
Knowing whether horse-flies like light or dark may not solve the ultimate question of live, the universe and everything but it does add something, however trivial, to the sum of human knowledge.
I can't help thinking that if the Ig Nobel committee spent time actually investigating stuff rather than getting all smug and sarcy about the efforts of others, the world might be a marginally better place.
