I kind of liked Star Trek as a child, but find it, and the many spin offs, uninspiring now. The three Star Wars films are still very watchable though.

There is a phrase I have heard to describe horrible/poor films, 'Ewok Bad' (the whole thing is more sensible when you consider it was written to be Wookies and George Lucas said no)

It pretty much lists what is wrong with screenplay writers, and with letting the morons (the writers' term for actors) have any control whatsoever over the roles they have to play.
Not that it's restricted to Star Trek, or indeed sci-fi. Fantasy is much worse, and other genres like detective, horror, and suspense are often just as bad (especially the screen-written variety).
It's within my capabilities to play devil's advocate and argue against their points, but that wouldn't stop them being 90% right.
