But Actually...
Depending on the country, the interest rate fluctuates with the prime rate. The prime rate is set by central banks. As long as the central banks (e.g. U.S. Federal Reserve, Bank of England, etc...) hold rates to historically low prices, the normal banking interest rates will also remain low. Only if/when the prime rates return to normal levels will the interest rate on savings accounts be anything but ~%0.05 annually.

I remember when they would send cards, of course with a sub-note to the effect of "if you got this by mistake return or destroy it." 2 days later the pin number mailer would arrive at the very same address (same note about being nice if 'not for you'). Judging from the date stamp, postage took 3 - 5 days.
And whose fault was it if the address was wrong and it took you a few days to notice your account depleting?

Yours. Who else can they blame? And then you need to call them a million times to get your money back even though all accounts are insured.

My Disco has seen the desert and it was gooood! 
I have travelled around 300km South into the Sahara and covered around 1,000km on roads and tracks ranging from poor to dirt. Sand dunes have been crossed, rivers forded and rocks climbed.
Aaaannd I have never taken it to Chelsea.

The worst my Rangie has ever had to put up with is towing a horsebox complete with 2 nags off a wet field on standard road tyres. It did however cope admirably .

I erred about getting a Defender but because of the long motorway miles we do, cross Europe is about 2,500km back to Hungary, we decided on the Disco. Best car I've owned and, with nothing but affection, she has been unanimously named The Battle Tank. Funnily, it's the first car we've had the girls didn't want to give a girly name to.

Same for me, best car I've ever owned despite it being 7 years old. Only downside so far is the price of some parts - £186 for a rear light (eek!). Good job we've only wrecked two so far in the 7 months I've had it - jack-knifed trailer both times  .
Would love to do a full overlanding trip in a kitted out Defender some day, but it's always likely to be a dream rather than reality.

Tell me about it! We are running our services slightly ahead of the book as the fuel is low grade and the atmospheric pollutants high and the spares out here, wherever that is, are bloody expensive. Luckily the labour costs are low so a full service comes in at around £400. I do have a problem with some nasty chips on the windscreen, but so far they can't even get a new screen, let alone someone to fit it.
