Hi All,
I think we as patrons of the lounge are familar with most things that happen as regular MM (or Ozzie friend) coming out with some very unpolitically correct views, drunken rampages etc. V doing 'Movie Quote Of The Day', R. Giskard Reventlov 'APOD', who was reponcible for CCC or Cryptic Crossword Clue if I think back I think it was Darlek Dave back in the day and now it's Winner Sets The Next One. It seems that Griff does most of them so is he the now the adoptive parent, or just good at them?

He's one of the ones who cares about it. There's a lot more of us aren't really that bothered about it.

The original was DD's toy, and it was fine. Then he decided to abandon us in favour of election to his local council (as some of his views would not have gone down well: such as his motivation for wanting the seat, opinion of Gypsies, the inhabitants of Stalag Luton, ...)
Unfortunately, he failed to gain his safe Tory Seat (despite the largest swing to the Tories country wide in decades it went to Labour) and has never returned to us.
So after a while, I resurrected it in "Winner Stays On" form and try to keep it alive since it provides gentle mental exercise for some.
I do try not to do most of them (I haven't done one since the 14th) in order to give others a chance - plus it's damn hard to come up with the clues

I remember first looking around CP found the Lounge, seeing CCC and being confused by it. So the DD opions did not get him elected(!?)...

He could be a bit, shall we say, controversial, at times, but his heart was in the right place (physically -- i.e. it was in his chest), and he did make the effort to do a CCC every day for years on end, which had a very positive effect on the Lounge.
I doubt that many -- if any -- could claim as much Lounge cred.

Not so - a quick search for CCC [^] reveals a wide range of culprits with Griff simply being one of many regular setters.
It also suggests that Griff's actual regular crossword thread is called "Oi! [Yesterday's winner]! Where's the CCC?" which usually appears before anyone's even had the chance to forget to do one. 
Slogans aren't solutions.

Who solves the CCC is also largely influenced by time zone and normal sleeping patters. By the time I get on the system, living on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S., the CCC is usually solved already.
And, if I was to solve one, I've probably get harangued because I didn't post the new one in a timely manner.
