You can ONLY run apps from the MS candy store? Seriously?
The so-called "apps" are just broken, dumbed-down version of desktop apps. I've yet to find a single one that works. In every case that I tried, I had to uninstall the store app and go back to using the desktop version because the store apps DO NOT WORK.
Now I'm SURE Microsoft is deliberately committing suicide. I suspected it before, but damn.

I don't think the idea is a bad one. It would sure cut down on tech support calls from family members who really just use their machines for web browsing and e-mail, but end up messing them up with malware if they're able to install anything from the entire internet. It makes sense for schools that are currently using Chromebooks now, too. If you're giving your students devices, it's probably better if the students can't install anythign and everything.
It also doesn't seem like Win10 S machines will be totally locked down. An upgrade straight to Win10 Pro will cost $50, and the upgrade even free until the end of 2017.

Don't get me wrong, I think the cloud is great, but I suspect a whole new tech will develop on mirroring / synchronizing your cloud data locally for that cough rainy day when all the clouds come home.
Obviously that tech exists already, it'll just be repackaged, toolified better, and reduntified (dang, I'm on a role tonight), with marketing like "Don't let that backhoe take down your entire operation" or "Worried about that unnamed country in the Korean Peninsula ruining your day and data?" or "Keep your customers connected with our private global mesh network, regardless of what the US Congress and spammers do to your bandwidth."
