The IRS has finally released the 1040 form for year 2017 (although it's still missing the very important, for me at least, 8606 form  ), and as usual, I use my PDFXChange 2.5 (Build 309.0) to fill in the forms, thus allowing for a simple printout, sign & date, and snail mail to the IRS. (I cannot simply affix a bitmap of my signature, as the IRS demands real ink , and I always seem to have to send in memo with my return because I seem to always do something that the IRS has not made it easy to do , so I can't do the eFile, and even when I tried, it was far too much work to do, BUT I DIGRESS ...)
Anyway, I have been noticing every year that the textbox (or whatever it's called in PDF) for the Social Security Number always seems to not work properly - when I try to type in my number, it adds an extra space between digits; this would not be so bad, but the last digit of the middle set of digits always seems to be located exactly on a divider. I've been putting up with this every year, but now I'M MAD AS H3LL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
So before I tell my curmudgeon Senator about this (he's the one that recently asked a judicial nominee some very basic things about being a judge, which the nominee bombed big time), I want to make sure that it's not just a bug with PDFXChange (which if it is, I'm going to complain to them), so I would like folks who have access to Adobe PDF (which should be the standard for the proper behavior of a PDF file) to give this a try, so as to light my path. Of course, if anyone has actually programmed in PDF, that would be even better.

P.S., As far as I know, PDFXChange is the only FREE PDF app that allows to fill in forms; if there are any suggestions for such a FREE PDF app NOT NAMED FOXIT (I don't care for the junkware), that would be welcomed.

I tried it simply in Chrome browser. (You do know Chrome can fill in pdf forms and save them, right?) Entered 123456789 as SSN. The 3 and 5 sit on the separators. So I'm inclined to say it's the form.

I just tried it with Adobe Reader and it worked fine.

Are you sure you did this scenario correctly? My understanding is that Adobe Reader doesn't allow for any changes, including entering data into textboxes. I'll have to check it out.

Adobe reader has allowed that for a while. I've used it many times.
You may also want to consider OLT.com, which has free federal returns.

I just tried it with the Adobe pro edition (albeit from about 2012 or so), and got the same results you found. The form is definitely not coded correctly.

Since blocking ads is stealing according to some, why blocking miners is any different, or even blocking malware?
I mean webmaster implied that cost of viewing the site is your privacy, I you don't like it, don't wa... oh wait, they already got your data!
I block:
- all scripts (only few domains white-listed)
- all cookies (only few domains white-listed)
- ads
- all referral info
Should I block anything else?
