Adobe warned on Thursday that attackers are exploiting a previously unknown security hole in its Flash Player software to break into Microsoft Windows computers. Adobe said it plans to issue a fix for the flaw in the next few days, but now might be a good time to check your exposure to this still-ubiquitous program and harden your defenses.

How is it that Microsoft can still claim a better, more secure OS when this crap still goes on? I would not expect application software to be able to bypass an OS' security measures, so it appears Microsoft still has not solved their core issues.

Short of making a transition to an entirely managed O/S where all code is verified before execution, what you're asking is impossible.

Catching up on this - then don't call your OS secure. Don't claim so as well.
Even so, ponder flash - it runs in a elephanting browser yes? Windows allows the browser - I'm not arguing that Windows should aspire to some DoD level system - but ffs - how do you allow an app running in a browser to penetrate your kernel?

Perhaps one of the biggest problem areas in C#—and one that’s been around since C# 1.0—surrounds the fact that reference types can be null and, in fact, reference types are null by default. "I call it my billion-dollar mistake."

public static readonly MyClass Null = new MyClass(); singleton instance that does nothing to save on null checking.

I think that the question is brilliant!
This is far better preparation for a career in software development than anything you'd ever find on a CS course.
Any students that go on to become developers will already have had plenty of practice for the inevitable day that they're asked "Exactly how long will it take you to code these incredibly vague requirements using tools that you've never worked with before?"

From the viewpoint of 'teach to them think critically', I agree.
But, is this is an exam, how is the answer to be graded? As with most 'news' stories, only half of the story is being told.

The person whose answer appears at the end must be Chinesier than most. That actually is an impressive way to think. However, you shouldn't test critical awareness in math. Teach a philosophy class and open it up for debate.

My algorithm for predicting the next color in roulette is right about 50% of the time. So it needs only minor, almost negligible, improvement for a significant step forward.
