Strictly just for fun (yes, after all these years, coding still fun for me)...
There a those days of the vacation when I'm alone - completely... I do some code if I feel so...

If something major happens and needs fixed asap I've remoted in while on vacation. But not normally.

I find that a great time to code my own projects. I still just sleep 4 hours a night on vacation while everyone else is sleeping 10+.

I code on vacations only when .... My support team can't do it by changing database status

Why bother taking vacation if you're writing code? Vacations are time for us to recharge the batteries and mentally relax ourselves. I'm seriously in the minority here...WTF.

It has meditative qualities, and zoning out is a great feeling. Akin to gardening, but without the dirt and the worms

The "never" vote, I'm relieved to say, seems to be growing.
Maybe early responders were just a bit nervous about admitting that they have better things to do with their spare time than arguing with computers.

Well... I think I'd earn strange looks if I started coding (and testing!) wow addons at work... so, hell yeah, I *DO* code in my free time. But not for the job.

What addons? Any that I would know about?

Coding is something I like doing but doing it all the time is bad for my health and takes my eye off the real world and its beauty. So vacations are vacations from coding and I have them.

At my previous job it was almost a norm to contact me while I was on vacation to make quick fixes, find "lost" code etc.
In my younger day (before parenthood) I also used to do some casual coding for fun or learning.

I would if it counted as paid time - more or less, sitting on a beach in the Caribbean, coding, whilst accumulating pay and using none of my real vacation time.
However, that does not appear to be on the horizon.
Probably all for the best - because then what would I do when on real vacation? Stay home and fix things?
