Even when you have no green in sight and only other buildings, you can still see natural light and watch people on the street if you want.
I sit in an office within a huge production hall.
The windows on the right side look to another bigger office, which get only partial natural light because its windows are not exterior windows.
The windows in front of me, look to another tinier office with no external windows at all.
The windows behind me look to the upper deck of the production hall, so only cable cabinets, metal bridges and elevators in sight.
The other wall, has no windows at all.
And let's not start with background noise...

Right now: On third floor window view over the city and Rocky Mountain is on the other side. Hardly pay attention to. Some day didn't even notice raining or snowing.
I've been in just about any situation you name it. In closet, basement, a cubicle within a cubicle and even in one of those Mainframe computer room with raise floor and sound proof walls.

At my previous employer, I had a window office on the second floor. Awesome view of fountain, geese, lawn, etc. Also, whenever the landscape guys came to maintain all of it (at least weekly), I had to resist sitting there for extended periods of time watching them. It was tough to get any work done.
Now that I have no view and have to walk a way to even see outside (and the view there is not nearly as pastoral), I have no such distractions and get a lot more done.

You needed taller (read "bigger" when talking to your boss) monitors/etc.
Mine obstruct the bottom part of my window so I can normally only see sky/tree tops, not the landscapers and parking lot.

For most of my career, I've been in a lab in a basement underground or deep inside a building. Last year I started working for a private space company writing code to test rocket engines. From my seat, I have a front row seat to the test stand about 500 yards away where they light these expensive candles. It's like watching rocket launches every day. It's awesome. I have the best view in the company and I'm the low man on the totem pole in my department. Not sure how that worked out, but I'll take it.

At home I will hopefully get an office soon instead of the kitchen table, once my middle child gets married and moves out.

Right now, I've ended up with a window cube due to some creative effort with an added dash of "No one else wanted the window or was allowed to sit where their activities couldn't be monitored."
However, due to some restructuring we're getting moved to another floor and I'll be stuck close to but not at a window. Cube walls and filtered light for me!
I'm a contractor at the moment and apparently we're not allowed to be treated like normal employees, so window seats are forbidden, mental health be damned.

As I work from my home office, if I turn around and look out the window, I can see the pool and the backyard. No city-scapes here.

The work environment here is from the 70's. Typical last century layout -- the slave drivers get the windows behind walled offices, the slaves get to work in the florescent, stuffy pit with soothing prison colors for cubicle walls. Recently they removed one of the colors, a nice eggshell blue, repainting the metal with battleship grey, so now everything is two-tone, grey and "some soothing color." My only recourse is putting my CP MVP awards and paintings on the cubicle walls and a webcam view of the outside on my monitor. Rather sucks. But hey, I'm only here 3 days a week, the other 2 days I have a gorgeous view of the woods and the sounds of the babbling brook and birds from my home office and on nice days I can take a 10 minute hike up the hill with my laptop and cell phone hotspot and have this for a view.

The lack of green in UK cities always leaves me astonished. I guess I am lucky since Turin is the greenest city in Italy despite being quite rich of jobs... And I still find it too choking, I'm glad my house is in a proper rural paradise. If only I could work from home...

Yes, there's a terrible attitude towards trees in the UK, as shown recently when some berk decided to cut down just about every tree in Sheffield:

More than the trees I'm upset by the fact that the Police was used to detain these people without upholdable charges but in the meantime the damage has been done.
It is a violation of the most basic human rights, a real show of a dictatorial regime. Bad things on the horizon...

It's a forest-y region.
Looking outside is a joy for the eyes!
Everybody can see outside from every table here.
Same at my previous job.
And pretty much the same at my job before that.
