Learning to code is very little about which language you choose and very much about learning to decompose problems.

That said, where you go when you're first starting has everything to do with what sort of learner you are. If you need a structured approach to learning you may find JS is the wrong choice and I would recommend something along the lines of Java or C#. You'll find that JS is exceptionally forgiving, and it will happily push through code that is malformed or just plain wrong and attempt to resolve it into a coherent response. This is not the way to learn to code.

If you really want to dig in, the C/C++ family is where I started, and understanding how those work did wonders for me in terms of learning other languages down the line, but it is absolutely unforgiving.
