You're basically right, but not totally. Most European languages are similar enough for it to be true. But in some other languages, the sentence structures are VERY different. You need to learn that specifically.

And some languages use other words than the European languages, so if you translate a word directly, it may not have the same meaning or it may not be how you express yourself in the other language.
