Not that it isn't cool, but couldn't they make the core changes necessary to Windows code, and then let you add the package for the full subsystem from the MS store if you wanted? This '64 Gig disk space needed to update' is getting ridiculous, and I don't foresee using Linux on my machine. (Or Candy Crush, or any of the other stuff they are pushing on us for that matter. Heck, I haven't even played Solitaire in years.)

From the article ^. The sentences give me the impression the kernel will add something to the main installer. Don't know how much, or if it is possible to plug that kernel in later. But it isn't something I'll use.

It's actually better to install Linux for day-to-day stuff, and Windows in a VM if you have apps that don't have an acceptable Linux analog, such as Visual Studio or DVD ripping software.

This way if MS screws it even harder, you just need to delete a VM instead of reinstalling everything
