There seem to be two prevailing views on this:
0) OOP is the way to do absolutely everything.
1) FP is the way to do absolutely everything.
I'm going to propose a "third way":
OOP is best for some projects and FP is best for others.
The "trillion dollar mistake" was not OOP per se but the notion that one size somehow fits all whatever the nature of your application. It's a mistake that many seem to be hell-bent on replicating with FP.

- Everyone claims to be doing OOP
- Very few are actually doing OOP
- The few who are doing it, are doing it wrong

4. There is no consensus about how to do OOP right because there was never a rigorous definition of what OOP is.

Dutch cheese has only one texture (rubber, in various degrees of hardness, because, unlike every other country, they don't seal the cheese properly, so it goes hard as it ages), and only one flavour, in varying strengths -- which is why they add yucky stuff like cumin, to give a bit of variety -- but the variety is only in the additives, not in the cheese itself.
