Haven't only because of laziness. You've encouraged me to do so now. I think I will try that out and see how it works. If it runs fast enough that way (and there is considerable less RAM used) then I could possibly put off buying new hardware for a while.

In my first job out of school I was programming Allen Bradley PLCs and they used mostly octal to represent values and it was very annoying. Almost every other PLC used hex and eventually AB did too. At least, to the best of my recollection they did. I got out of programming PLCs as soon as I possibly could which was not long after that.
Amusing trivia : I started that job about the same time the IBM PC came out and back then PLCs were called Programmable Controllers or PCs for short. It took a few years to make the full transformation to call them Programmable Logic Controllers since the term PC had become trademarked.

We have a Logitech universal remote - five devices, one remote. Every once in a while, one or more devices get out of sync, but it's easy to recover.

this is a hill i will die on. Smart devices should talk to smart phones, and devices these days should be smart if they cost $100 or more.

My "universal" remote talks to the "smart hub" that talks to the actual devices. There is an app that can talk to the "smart hub" if you can't find the remote (or just prefer the app).

can it page the remote? *raises eyebrow* - one of the reasons I've never bought into these things is so many lack a page feature. You'd think for what you'd spend they'd put some thought into that. That's also one of the reasons i like a phone. It makes noise. It can bark or whistle at you.

Devices are just now supporting it over the past decade. 15-20 years is just too long of a turnaround time for tech. Meh.

Not that I'm aware of. It's a non-issue for me. It's only the wife and I and we are both very good at ALWAYS keeping it in one of two or three places.

We're not married to our phones like everyone else seems to be. With one exception, I don't have any apps on mine that didn't come with it.
We've never lost a remote, and the Logitech is cheap, so buying another one won't be a problem if we need to do it.
