I've seen the soapbox, but never really spent any time in there. Seems like its purpose was just to allow the more controversial discussions on sensitive topics to take place, and I don't feel we need CP to enable that. There's a million other sites better suited for that purpose.

Exactly. They're junk sites. The one nice thing about the soapbox was it was a place of "peers", not just crazy randoms.

I partially (actually mostly) agree... the biggest problem is that most of those decent / interesting discussions degrade to meaningless flame wars and endless loops that brought nothing more to the topic and were just for the sick of "who has it longer" or "You are wrong, and I am right".
There have been more than enough chances to keep it in the interesting level, those chances were always missused and now... it is gone.
Let it rest in peace.

It seems to me that, when it comes to "the rule of law" in any of its forms, some believe it to be a one-way street which they ride down on their high horses.

No. Applying derogatory labels to political leanings, using the basic vernacular of the Soapbox, is exactly the point.
Add to that the total irrelevance to the context of the OP(s) and you have something pretty obvious going on. Unless, of course, you agree with the aspersions, at which point they are considered no big deal.

Well I ran into something.
If you want to do a B+ tree or B-tree as a disked based container you have to lay your file out in blocks.
The trouble with that is that so many .NET types are not fixed length when they serialize (and even then, their serialization is cluttered with typeinfo i don't need - i already know the type)
so i either have to modify the B+ trees and B-trees substantially and go above and beyond what traditional database systems do by allowing indexable arbitrary length fields in a "table".
Failing that I'd have to abandon the dictionary based disk indexers and go full on ADO.NET provider, which is a ton of overhead in terms of labor.
I'm leaning toward the latter but holy cow, do i have my work cut out for me.
Unless any of you have other ideas?
