You must be confused with the hardcore Linux fans. Those can be rabid beyond scary. There's no comparable thing as a "Redmond fanlemming", as you put it. The most you'll probably get out of some Windows users, especially on a site like CP, is perhaps an admission that they're making a good living writing software for the platform. But most wouldn't call themselves "fans".

I forked over $5 on Start 10 for my Win10 Pro box at work, which makes Win10 look and work like Win7. I have context menus, a normal file manager, control panel, etc. and the usual behavior one expects from a non-brain damaged UI. Best $5 I ever spent. I highly recommend it.

I knew I recognized that company. They also make Sins - very good 4X game. I'll have to try out Start10 when I'm forced into a Win10 box soon (still using 7 atm).

They also make Fences - VERY neat way to organize your desktop. I've been using it for years!

I have context menus - do you have Tablet Mode enabled on the lappie? If so, that disables them and can be changed with WIN+A and click / tap on "Tablet Mode".
I don't get on with it myself (I prefer it off even on the Surface) but some do: Use your PC like a tablet[^]

Does it also not work when you use the keyboard to open the context menu? If it would work with the keyboard then there is an issue with your mouse 
It does not solve my Problem, but it answers my question

It honestly never occurred to me to use a different mouse. I didn't even think to try the touch pad (I abhor the use of touch pads, and have disabled them in all of my laptops).

Had a mouse hooked up to a laptop yesterday that caused one of those "USB device not recognized" popups, which is rather unusual for a simple device like a mouse. Tried another port - worked perfectly. Switched it back - problem came back. Switched it again (to the port that worked) - now the problem had propagated to it as well. And it stayed that way until I took the time to reboot the laptop.
Even in this day and age, sometimes you still can't dismiss the simplest fixes...
