OK - let's (for the moment) accept your preposition that it might not be homework.

So often, however, the initial problem is specified in prose that surely seem like a class assignment. How might this be addressed? In admittedly either/or terms, how do we handle such posts in the weighing of the probability of it being an old timer trying to learn new tricks vs. an apprentice leach?

The closest to resolution that comes to mind is prefacing with "this seems like it might be a homework question".

Surely we don't want to punish the guilty - in what seems ofttimes like a barrel of bad apples, there may yet be some yet unspoiled.
